                     In the broadest sense of the term, the leasing transactions were dated by historians to even 4000 years ago in the lands of Babylon and Egypt, and had covered leasing of land or livestock. Early forms of contemporary leasing appeared together with the invention of the credit by cambists (bankers) sitting in the benches (from It., “banco” – bench) of the Italian city-states: Venice, Genua, Florence or Milan in the beginning of the Renaissance.

       Later, the story of the credit and lending relations takes us through Amsterdam (in the end of the XV century) to Great Britain in XIX century where the first modern leasing contract was concluded (signed by British Railway Wagons). The term “leasing” was used fro the first time in 1877 when the telephone company BELL decided not to sell but let out its telephones. From the end of the XIX century and till the middle of the XX century, the leasing developed in Great Britain and USA mainly because of the railway transport development to reach 1954 when the first contemporary universal leasing company (U.S. Leasing Corp.) was registered in the United States. Nowadays, the leasing is an economic and finance phenomenon of primary importance.
